International Course Requirements

If you are undertaking a course overseas, you will need to:

Complete all online Units of Competency

Attend the practical workshop induction

Complete On the Job Training: This would be carried out under the supervision and direction of a Lead Teacher of your sourcing.  You would need to carry out 20-30 hours of swim teaching experience and have your employer provide you with a letter confirming you have completed this so you can submit this with your application.

Undergo a Competency Assessment: You will be required to source a Swim Teacher who holds the equivalent Swim Australia™ Teacher qualification that you are applying for  who is prepared to assess your competency and sign you off.

The assessment generally takes about 1.5 hours and there will be a checklist of competencies you will need to be signed off in (this will be contained in your online workbook) which you will then submit as part of your application.  If you head to our Swim School Finder and search for your country in the drop down box there may be Swim Australia affiliated pools you could approach to assist with signing you off:

Please note: As you will be issued with an International Teaching Certificate and will not be required to provide a CPR, USI or Working with Children Check with your application.  These would only be required if you plan on coming to Australia to teach in the future in which case we would convert you to an Australian qualification and ask that you provide a CPR, USI or Working with Children Check to complete this process.
