Rsz Wade Sqscta2 11 1024x683Our entry-level course, the  Swim Australia™ Teacher (SAT), has the competence and knowledge to teach swimming and water safety to independent learners from ages 2.5 years upward, emphasising safety, fun, and skill development. 

The skill set SISSS00132 – Swimming and Water Safety Teacher provides the skills and knowledge required to assist individuals in gaining the competencies required to deliver water-related personal safety and survival lessons as determined by the federal government. 

Upon completing all the course requirements, candidates will be accredited with the Swim Australia™ Teacher license, valid for three years. The course includes vocational education training requirements and non-accredited training requirements in line with the Aquatic Industry. This is the industry standard for Teachers of  Swimming and Water Safety.  

This course is aimed at people entering the aquatics and community recreation industry, wishing to instruct swimming and water safety and the entry point into Sport, Aquatics and Recreation industry.  

UNITS OF COMPETENCY 

Nat Rec Training Logo NEW 300x240The Swim Australia™ Teacher  course incorporates nationally recognised units of competency from the Sport, Aquatics and Recreation training package. Successful completion of all assessment requirements will result in the award of a Statement of Attainment for the Skill Set SISSS00112 – Swimming and Water Safety Teacher. Additionally, achieving these units grants credit towards the SIS31015 Certificate III of Aquatics and Community Recreation. The following units are awarded:  

  • SISCAQU020       Perform water rescues 
  • SISCAQU023       Plan swimming lessons 
  • SISCAQU024       Teach water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills 
  • SISCAQU025     Teach water safety and survival skills 
  • SISCAQU026       Teach swimming strokes 

COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must provide a current Working with Children Check (WWCC). There may be exceptions for under-18s in some locations
  • Must provide a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) number at the time of enrolment for verification by SWIM Australia. A USI is a reference number required by the Commonwealth statutory office (Student Identifiers Act 2014) and is obtained from the USI Registrar.   • Candidates must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet, or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies
  • Individuals on a VISA must check their VISA conditions before enrolling, we are not a CRICOS provider. Start a VISA query here
  • Candidates must be at least 15 years of age at the time of enrolment

 

STUDENT JOURNEY & DELIVERY STRATEGY 

This interactive course is delivered in a blended format with online theory and practical components.  

The practical workshop requires attendance at a face-to-face training session for a full day. Students will also be required to complete supervised industry training in a swim teaching environment in a range of conditions.  The course consists of theory, practical and “on-the-job” components:  

  1. Theory component – topics completed via our SWIMDECK Learning Management System. Candidates will be able to book into a practical workshop once online modules are completed
  2. Practical component – involves swimming activities that may be carried out in shallow or deep water
  3. On-the-job training and assessment component – completed in a location/venue of the student’s choice to complete and deliver a number of supervised tasks in line with the skill set

ALLOWABLE TIME 

Candidates have 12 months to complete their training for all SWIM Australia courses unless otherwise stated.  

COURSE PRICE

Prices range from $315 to $360, depending on location. Please refer to the Course Calendar for specific pricing details prior to enrolment.

COURSE COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS 

To be determined competent as a Swim Australia™ Teacher , students will be required to complete and/or provide the following evidence: 

  • Online Theory assessment 
  • Practical Workshop and assessment 
  • Accumulative Training Record with all tasks and relevant signatures completed 
  • Current Statement of Attainment for HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation 
  • Current Working with Children Check 
  • Completion of the  Swimming Australia Safe Sport Framework

To ensure you’re fully prepared, we recommend you plan ahead and set aside at least two (2) weeks from your preferred date to finish the theory component of the course. If you haven’t completed all the required theory components, you won’t be adequately prepared to attend the hands-on workshop.
