Deaf Children Australia is launching Puggles Swim to swimming schools across Australia so deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) children can learn to swim in a mainstream swimming class. This is what is so unique about Puggles Swim, it is helping to build inclusive communities as hearing and DHH kids learn to swim together – awesome!
The Puggles Swim program will upskill swim teachers, arming them with relevant Auslan signs and deaf awareness resources. The curriculum has been developed together with subject matter experts including SCTA, AUSTSWIM, leading swim instructors and course developers.
The Course provides tools and skills to overlay current learn-to-swim classes with deaf-friendly tactics – allowing swim teachers and swim schools to include deaf or hard-of-hearing children in swim classes.
In supporting our mission to remove barriers to participation for deaf and hard-of-hearing children in society, swim schools will be changing lives!
